The first thing you have to understand is the difference between this question and asking what super power would you want. The answers to those questions are distinct for wildly different reasons.
I am not going to say any of the obvious choices like Superman or Batman. None of the movie superheros really. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed the Batman series from comic book to classic movies to crappy movies to awesome new movies. That is a boring answer so I am going to say something else.
I guess I would have to say my favorite superhero is Iron Man.
Let’s talk about this for a second. Who is Iron Man really? If the first thought that just popped up in your head was Robert Downey Jr. then you need to get over yourself and your obsession with him. No, but really, Iron Man is a badass nerd.
Pardon my French but Iron Man is the superhero of the people. Ignore, the Bruce Wayne, I am a superhero because I am rich complex for a minute and follow me on this one.
Tony Stark only became Iron Man out of desperation to flee his captivity. Human will triumphing over obstacles, pushing man beyond his normal limits. I am all about pushing yourself and striving for 150% (not that I actually do any of that but it is a good sentiment anyways).
The most important aspect of all this though is what happened between Tony Stark in an iron suit to Iron Man in a badass suit. What changed was the person inside the hero. What Stark realized is that he was the sole cause of much of the hatred and violence in the world. What he saw and what I hope a lot of people see is that the only way to bring about drastic change in the world he lived was to take it upon himself.
I really believe in the sentiment that “you must be the change you wish to see in the world”. I have lived everyday of my life operating under the assumption that nothing good happens unless I make an effort for it to happen. Now that is a superhero I can get behind. I mean, we can ignore the loose morals and cocky attitude for a second. We are all a little arrogant about somethings now aren’t we? Besides, it wasn’t his money (though it certainly helped) that made him a hero, hell it wasn’t even the suit (tools to an end), rather it was his will to make up for his mistakes that made Iron Man a true hero.
Hence, the answer becomes easy, my favorite superhero is clearly Aquaman. Kidding of course, how that guy got into the Justice League I will never know. Honestly, it must have been one of those awkward moments where they said if no one else applies they will let him in and then accidentally no one else filled out the application on time.
Finally, to answer my friend Ana Cosma’s question, my favorite superhero is Iron Man because he is a badass nerd that became a superhero for the right reasons and owns a freaking iron clad suit of awesomeness.
